The OV2640 Camera Module is a configured 2MP camera with an M12 Fixed Focus lens and a D130° view. Its standard optics suit ESP32-based devices that need the subject and a substantial portion of its surroundings in the same frame.
Keep the supplied lens when that surrounding area is part of the required image. The H95° × V60° view establishes the standard framing; choosing this configuration does not require a separate lens-design project.
A different lens becomes worth discussing when the mounting position is fixed but the important subject occupies too little of the 1600 × 1200 image. Enlarging a crop uses only the pixels already assigned to that subject. A suitably matched narrower view could allocate more of the frame to it, with less surrounding coverage.
