2MP Alternatives and Sony Upgrade Options
Replacement guidance updated September 17, 2026
Looking for an alternative to an IMX307, IMX462 or IMX662 camera module? Our replacement guidance prioritizes SC235HAI for 2MP evaluation, offers GC2053 and GC2093 for cost-sensitive projects, and recommends considering 5MP or 4K when Sony is required.

Existing Orders and New Designs Need Different Decisions
Existing standard IMX307, IMX462 and IMX662 modules remain available for purchase, subject to stock confirmation. Customers using an established configuration can evaluate alternative modules alongside their current production requirements.
For an existing device, reserving the current configuration may help maintain production while a replacement is evaluated. For larger quantities, we recommend discussing an advance deposit to reserve confirmed stock. Quotes for these existing IMX307, IMX462 and IMX662 standard modules are valid for one week. Agree on the quantity and delivery schedule before committing.
For a new design, choose the replacement around the image and integration requirements your product must retain.

Three Replacement Routes and What Each Offers
Keep 2MP Evaluate SC235HAI First
SC235HAI is our preferred replacement candidate for projects that want to stay at 2MP. SmartSens documents 1080p at up to 60fps, enhanced near-infrared sensitivity through Lightbox IR technology, and an HDR mode with dynamic range above 100dB.
These capabilities provide reasons to evaluate it beyond matching the pixel count. Near-infrared sensitivity is relevant to IR-assisted night imaging, while HDR is relevant to scenes containing bright and dark areas. Test those needs with the final lens, illumination and image processing; the sensor figures do not establish the performance of a finished USB module.
We plan two standard SC235HAI module versions: a small-lens version for projects prioritizing compact optics, and an M12-lens version for projects needing lens choices. Share your mounting space, viewing angle, working distance and expected quantity to help guide development. Final module specifications and sample timing remain to be confirmed.

Prioritize Cost Review GC2053 and GC2093
If the application needs practical 1080p viewing and purchase cost is a major constraint, GC2053 and GC2093 are alternative evaluation directions in our sales guidance.
The catalog includes GC2093 USB2.0 designs in 25 × 25mm square and 60 × 10mm narrow module footprints. This gives customers different starting points for fitting a camera into an existing enclosure. Compare the proposed configuration with your current image under actual lighting before selecting by price; neither equivalent low-light performance nor a specific saving is implied.

Keep Sony Consider a 5MP or 4K Upgrade
Within our current replacement recommendations, we do not have a suitable Sony 2MP option. Customers requiring Sony can evaluate IMX675 at 5MP, or IMX678 and IMX415 for 4K. IMX675 currently has no standard module in our range.
Two documented module examples show how the application affects selection:
SF8A625-88 with IMX415: USB3.0, with 3840 × 2160 at 60fps documented for MJPEG and H.264. Consider it when the project needs detailed 4K video and can accommodate the selected data format and host workload.
SF-SQ8A987-86 with IMX678: USB3.0 and HDMI, with 4K at 30fps documented for MJPEG and H.264. Consider it when host capture and an HDMI connection are both relevant.
This is a resolution and configuration upgrade, requiring evaluation of optics, mounting, power and host processing alongside the sensor choice.
Which Route Fits Your Application
IR Assisted Monitoring
If the old module is used with infrared illumination or an IR-cut mechanism, preserve those requirements in the replacement assessment. SC235HAI's NIR capability makes it relevant to evaluation, but the complete day/night assembly still needs to be defined.
Embedded Viewing with a Tight Budget
For a device that already meets its imaging needs at 1080p, review the cost-oriented 2MP route before accepting the integration work of a 4K upgrade. Include board shape and lens coverage in the comparison.
Sony Based Systems Needing More Detail
When Sony remains a requirement and extra image detail benefits the application, review the documented 4K modules. Select the required frame rate and output format together.
What to Check Before Approving a Replacement
Provide:
The current module model, interface and enclosure drawing.
Required resolution, frame rate and output format.
Lighting, IR illumination, HDR needs and representative images.
Working distance, viewing area, quantity and delivery schedule.
Compare samples against the functions your existing device must preserve, not just the sensor name.
FAQ
Can I Order My Current Module While Evaluating an Alternative
Existing IMX307, IMX462 and IMX662 standard modules remain available for purchase, subject to stock confirmation. Share your required quantity and delivery schedule so current orders and replacement evaluation can be planned together.
Is SC235HAI a Drop In Replacement
Do not assume it. Sensor interfaces, module electronics, firmware, optics and mechanical fit need assessment for the actual product.
Are the Two SC235HAI Standard Modules Available Now
They are planned designs. Customer requirements are being collected to guide the small-lens and M12 versions.
Should Every Customer Move to 4K
No. Stay with a 2MP evaluation route when it meets the application. Consider 5MP or 4K when Sony is required or additional detail justifies the integration changes.
Plan Your Camera Replacement
Send your current module model, critical imaging requirements and delivery forecast. We can review your current configuration and recommend alternatives that preserve the functions you need or support a planned upgrade.
